Joomla! is different from the normal models for content management software. For a start, it's not complicated. Joomla! has been developed for everybody, and anybody can develop it further. It is designed to work (primarily) with other Open Source, free, software such as PHP, MySQL, and Apache.

There is some cost, not for the program, even though we do incourage our customers to donate to the project, but for the hosting package and domain name registration.  The program has to have a place on a server to reside.  At LTED the Economy package provides enough space and bandwidth for most small businesses and is competatively priced at $5.95/mo and domain registration is under $10.00/yr.  First year expenses for domain name and hosting under $100.00/yr and if you donate $20.00 to Joomla you are still just barely over a hundred dollars.

It is easy to install and administer, and is reliable.  At LTED Joomla installs automatically from your LTED account control center.  Just go to MY ACCOUNT and log in, go to  MY HOSTING accounts and open your hosting account.  Look for the value added button and click it.  You will see a whole assortment of PHP scripts there, all good scripts that load automatically, Joomla is under the Content Management Systems.

Joomla! doesn't even require the user or administrator of the system to know HTML to operate it once it's up and running.

To get the perfect Web site with all the functionality that you require for your particular application may take additional time and effort, but with the Joomla! Community support that is available and the many Third Party Developers actively creating and releasing new Extensions for the 1.5 platform on an almost daily basis, there is likely to be something out there to meet your needs. Or you could develop your own Extensions and make these available to the rest of the community.
